Arrival and Day 1

 June 2-3

After a 2 flights and long delays on both flights we finally arrived. We were delighted to see Glenn’s uncle, Ivan waiting for us. Our drive to Moshav Manof was filled with little tidbits reaching us about Israel. Did you know in Israel, you don’t drive around a hill or mountain? Tunnels are built through the hills.

We arrived home to Rene’s warm welcoming embrace. She had homemade bread and soup waiting for us. After a light meal Brandon and Colin made their way to the Futbol cages where many of the local boys their age were already engaging in a game. Brandon and Colin immediately joined their game and 2 hours later they left with new friends, phone numbers and feeling very welcomed by the boys.

Friday morning we woke up feeling refreshed and ready for the day. Ivan took us to Yarka where we went to the market and the most amazing toy store.  It puts FAO Schwartz to shame. We visited Yodfat, caves where the Jews hid while the Romans attacked.

We enjoyed hummus, falafel, pita and salads in the Arab town of Sakhnine with Ivan and Orr. Orr then brought the boys to a sweet shop for pastries and Iced Coffee. Boy it was a treat.

Finally during the evening we went to Tracy’s home for Shabbat along with Mark and Oznat and their family, Nikki and her family came to spend time with us. Tracey made the most magnificent meal. We began with Hummus, pita, falafel, many salads and delicious challah. We then had soup and a variety of meats and vegetables. Dinner was finished with a lovely birthday celebration for all the May and June birthdays. The desserts were out of this world.
